    Fruitful Season of Singleness

    Wednesday, February 19, 2020

“How happy is the man who does not follow the advice of the wicked or take the path of sinners or join a group of mockers! Instead his delight is in the Lord’s instruction, and he meditates on it day and night. He is like a tree planted beside streams of water that bears its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. The wicked are not like this; instead, they are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not survive the judgment, and sinners will not be in the community of the righteous. For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to ruin.” Psalm 1

Live for yourself and do whatever makes you happy. No, deny yourself, pick up your cross daily, and follow Jesus. (Matthew 16:24)

God has forgotten you or passed you over. Time to take things in your own hands. No, “trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Put your hope and dreams in finding a man. No, “For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.” (Psalm 62:5)

What God has to say about your season of singleness is not what the world has to say. Following His advice results in abundant joy. Delight in what the Lord says. Meditate on His Word.

If your source of identity is found in affirmation from guys, hope in marriage, or prideful independence, you will wither in times of difficulty. But if your source is from meditating on God’s Word and spending time with Jesus, you will become like a flourishing tree that produces fruit in this season of singleness. You will not wither when your source is Jesus.

What is your source of identity today? Whose advice are you following?
